It’s that time of year again! Morning lectures begin at 8:30 a.m. sharp and you’re expected to be ready to learn. As vapers head back to college campuses across the U.S. this month, many people are wondering how best to manage their vaping habit throughout the day.
These days, college campuses are full of kids eager to break out their personal vaporizers. While this trend has been largely accepted on campuses across the nation, there are still a few things you should be aware of. For instance, some campuses restrict vaping to designated smoking areas. If that’s the case at your school, you should make sure that you are following the rules.
Here are a few helpful hints to help you survive the semester.
The first step to surviving college as a vaper is to learn the laws in your area.
A number of new laws have banned vaping and smoking in public places. Colleges and universities fall into this category, so you may be forced to go all the way back to your car in the parking garage to partake, rather than vaping out on the sidewalk.
Even if your city or state has not passed vape bans, it’s likely that your university has designated smoking areas somewhere on the campus that you will need to adhere to.
Be Open to Discussion
While many young people today are familiar with what vaping is and how it works, you are still likely to run into a slew of people who have no idea what makes vaping so important. As an ambassador for vapers everywhere you need to be prepared to answer questions. That means talking about the benefits of vaping, how it works and why you chose to vape. Perhaps the worst thing you could do is blow off sincere questions or have a bad attitude when people genuinely want to learn about your device.
In addition to the benefits of switching from smoking to vaping, you may also be able to introduce people to new flavors and the joy of competitive vaping. Show off your tricks at the next frat house party and challenge any other vapers to participate in the fun.
While many vape shops have recognized the perks of being located near a college campus, you may not always have time to make a stop on your way to class. You can be sure that your fellow students and professors will not be amused if you are constantly coming into class late because you had to sneak in a vape shop trip.
The best thing to do is to get into a routine during the day and carry just enough e-liquid and spare parts with you to survive until you have free time.
With handy devices like the Air 2, it is possible to vape very discreetly throughout the day. Unlike big-time box mods, the Air 2 and other mini devices are perfect for indulging in a vape here and there without letting off huge plumes of vapor.
Remember, your professor probably doesn’t want you vaping in the lecture hall, so don’t make yourself a nuisance. Be courteous if you are asked to take your vape elsewhere. Nobody wants to be part of a confrontation that could get all vaporizers banned from campus.
While you know that secondhand vapor is harmless, you are still likely to encounter people who don’t want to be doused with your candy clouds. If you are vaping in common areas outdoors, be cognizant of who’s around.
Be polite if someone asks for space. Vapers already have a tough reputation to begin with, so a little bit of kindness can really help school administrators see that we aren’t out to cause trouble.
Don’t Try to Vape in Class
Trying to sneak in a stealth vape during the middle of class is a surefire way to get in trouble. Even if you’ve mastered stealth vaping, you don’t want to risk missing out on that education that you’re paying for.
Be an Activist
Colleges exist to educate people, and while vaping may not deserve its own three-credit course, it is definitely a subject worth discussing. Whether it’s regulations or health impacts, there is a ton of educating to be done on the subject. Speak to your fellow students, reach out to professors and open a dialogue to help people understand why you vape.
As with anything, college is about finding your place in the world. While vaping may contribute to your hobbies and your personal health journey, it can also present a challenge on campus. The best thing to do is be proactive about positively representing vapers and doing your part to reach out to people so that they can understand the benefits of vaping, too.
Keep Calm, And Vape On
For the most part, vapers have been welcomed on college campuses with open arms. Faculty members tend to appreciate that vaping is an alternative to smoking that leaves the campus looking cleaner with fewer cigarette butts and unsightly ash trays. Be cool and you’ll find most people will respect your right to vape.
