What is vape juice?

Vape juice, also known as e-liquid, is the delicious liquid that you inhale from a vaping device.

How does vaping e-liquid work?

Every vape device has a battery, which uses energy to heat a metal coil. The coil then atomizes the vape juice, turning it into vapor, which is then inhaled by the user.

What are the ingredients of vape juice?

Most e-juices contain:
  1. Propylene Glycol (PG)
  2. Vegetable Glycerin (VG)
  3. Flavorings
  4. Nicotine
  5. Other additives
Some e-liquids lack PG, nicotine, or flavors. Flavorings can be artificial, natural, or organic.

What are PG and VG and why do they matter?

About 95% of a vape juice’s makeup is composed of Propylene Glycol (PG) and Vegetable Glycerine (VG).

Both these substances are non-toxic and are often used in food, cosmetic, and medicine products. Vape juices vary in their ratio of PG to VG and this affects the vaping experience.

Propylene Glycol is a thin odorless, colorless liquid. PG provides the “throat hit” which is often likened to the effect of smoking.

Vegetable Glycerine is a derivative of vegetable oil and is a thicker substance. It’s presence in vape juice produces denser, more voluminous clouds associated with cloud-chasing and professional vaping.


What VG/PG ratio should I use?

The answer to this question is highly subjective, since every vaper has their own unique preferences. However, there are three main categories of PG/VG ratio vape juice to explore.

Classic Vape Juice: This category refers to e-liquids that have a higher ratio of PG than VG (70% PG or higher). Vaping this juice has a strong throat hit and thus provides a sensation similar to smoking. This juice is thinner and ideal to use with low-wattage vape devices.

50/50 Vape Juice: This vape juice is exactly what it says on the bottle. It has a perfect balance between PG and VG. It is versatile in that it can be used in both mouth-to-lung and direct-lung vaping sessions.

Sub Ohm Vape Juice: This category refers to e-liquids with a higher VG than PG content (50% VG or higher). These vape juices are designed for high-wattage sub ohm vaping and producing huge, dense clouds.


How long does vape juice last?

Most 100ml vape juice bottles have a shelf life of around 2 years if stored correctly. This means storing the e-liquid in a dark, cool place to keep the food safe materials from expiring. Keeping e-liquids in your refrigerator is the best way to ensure they last.
